Hurricanes hold out against Reds
The Hurricanes opened their 2005 Super 12 season with a hard earned win against the Queensland Reds at Ballymore. The Hurricanes scored 24 points to 10 points from the Reds.
Reds skipper Elton Flatley opened the scoring early with a try in the first 30 seconds. The Hurricanes came back through try to Ma’a Nonu. The conversion and two penalties gave the Hurricanes a 13-5 lead going into half-time.
In the second half Nathan Sharpe scored a try for the Reds, which brought them within 3 points of the Hurricanes. The Hurricanes were able to extend their lead by two penalties and hold out against several attacking phases from the Reds.
A try Fa’atau in the last minute of the sealed the win for the Hurricanes.
