Possible comeback for Jonny Wilkinson

England’s World Cup hero Jonny Wilkinson could make his Twickenham return this weekend. But for Newcastle rather than the English national side.

Wilkinson has been training with his club Newcastle and could possibility play for Newcastle when they take on Quins at the Stoop Memorial Ground next door to Twickenham in a Zurich Premiership match.

It is highly unlikely that Wilkinson will be back for England’s last 6 Nations match against Scotland. Although it is possible he will be available for Newcastle’s Heineken Cup quarter-final game against French champions Stade Francais in Paris on April 2.

He has not played international rugby since the World Cup final against Australia in November 2003. Unless he gets some game time it is likely, even if fit, he won’t be selected for the British and Irish Lions tour of New Zealand.
