Graham Henry to coach All Blacks until 2007

May 6th, 2005

All Black coach Graham Henry and assistants Wayne Smith and Steve Hansen have had their contracts extended until the 2007 World Cup.

The three were originally signed up until the end of the 2005 season, but the New Zealand Rugby Union (NZRU) announced today they had agreed to extend their contracts.

NZRU chairman Jock Hobbs announce extension in a statement also said the board had been highly impressed by the three coaches since their appointment in 2004.

“The Board has been delighted with the work of the coaching team, not only in terms of the All Blacks on-field results, but also in terms of the amount of effort that they have put into improving the high performance environment in New Zealand rugby,” Hobbs said.

This move will give some certainty to Henry, as the three most recent All Black coaches haven’t lasted longer than two years.
