Blues 2007 Super 14 Squad

The Blues 2007 squad see the return of former All Blacks flanker/lock Troy Flavell, who has been playing in Japan.

Graham Henry announces All Black squad for European tour

All Black coach Graham Henry has announced his squad for the end of year European tour.

There is one first time selection in the squad - Canterbury halfback Andy Ellis. Also of note is the recall of Waikato lock Keith Robinson who earned six caps between 2002 and 2004 before a long-term back injury.

Jone Tawake amputates finger

October 17th, 2006

Brumbies loose forward, Jone Tawake, has had the ring finger on his right hand partially amputated in the hope of ensuring his selection for next year’s World Cup in France.

Previous attempts to repair a dislocation of the finger had resulted in a severe infection.

Jonah Lomu to switch to league?

October 16th, 2006

All Black great Jonah Lomu is considering a switch to play rugby league for the newly formed Gold Coast Titans.

Medical staff for the Titans must pass Lomu fit on the Gold Coast tomorrow before he enters into preliminary discussions with club’s management.

Four new Springboks in squad

October 15th, 2006

Springbok coach Jake White has selected four new caps to his 28 men squad, while giving some senior a rest, for their end-of-year tour to Britain and Ireland.

Free State Cheetahs fullback Bevan Fortuin, Blue Bulls flanker Hilton Lobberts, Lions centre Jaco Pretorius and Sharks flyhalf Francois Steyn are the four new members in White’s squad.

2007 Super 14 Fixtures

The South African, New Zealand and Australian Rugby Unions (SANZAR) have released the schedule for the 2007 Super 14. The 2007 Super 14 season will start a week earlier to allow for the Rugby World Cup.

The competition starts off on 2nd February with the Blues hosting the Crusaders in Auckland. It finishes up with the grand final to be played on the 19th May.

It is still unknown which team will be the 5th South African side. The South African Rugby Union (SARU) had originally planned for the Southern Spears to replace that country’s bottom-placed team this year, the Cats, for 2007 and 2008.

2007 Tri Nations Fixtures

October 12th, 2006

Sanzar have released the schedule for the 2007 Tri Nations. There will only be six matches played in 2007 so as to give the players a rest before the start of the Rugby World Cup.

The series kicks off on 16 June with South Africa hosting Australia at a venue yet to be confirmed. And finishes on the 21 July with the All Blacks hosting the Wallabies at Eden Park.
