Two new players in Ireland 6 Nations Squad

Ireland coach Eddie O’Sullivan has selected two new player in the 2007 Ireland 6 Nations Squad. They are Munster centre Barry Murphy and Leinster back Robert Kearney.

John Kirwan signs up to coach Japan

Former All Black and Italian coach, John Kirwan, has signed a contract to coach the Japanese national rugby squad.

Kirwan playing in 63 Test matches for the All Blacks, then coached Italy’s national team from 2002 to 2005. However poor results saw him sacked from the Italian coaching role.

Kirwan will coach the Japanese side through the 2007 Rugby World Cup where they will play in the same pool as Australia, Wales, Fiji and Canada.

Schalk Burger to make come back for Stormers

South Africa and Stormers flanker Schalk Burger will make his comeback from a severe neck injury when he plays for the Stormers in a Super 14 warm-up game this weekend.

Stormers coach Kobus van der Merwe has named Burger in his team to face the Bulls at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria on Saturday.

Burger, the 2004 world player of the year, needed a neck operation after being injured in the second Test against Scotland in June.

While he was out injured, the Springboks lost their next five matches and only won five games the entire year.

Chris Latham suffers serious knee injury

Queensland Reds and Australian fullback Chris Latham could miss the 2007 Super 14 season because of a serious knee injury.

Latham injured his knee during a Reds pre season training session. Preliminary scans point to torn anterior cruciate and medial ligaments. Which will likely require a full knee reconstruction.

Also it will not leave much time to prepare for the Rugby World Cup, which starts in early September.

Four newcomers in France’s Six Nations Squad

France rugby coach Bernard Laporte has selected four newcomers in his 40-man squad for next month’s Six Nations tournament.
Centre Romain Cabannes, hooker Benoit August, prop Laurent Emmanuelli and fullback Anthony Floch were the uncapped players named.

All Black team to face England named

November 2nd, 2006

All Black coach Graham Henry has named his team to face England on Sunday at Twickenham.

Significant are the return of lock Keith Robinson, Nick Evans replacing Dan Carter at first five-eighth and Ma’a Nonu coming in at centre. As well as a complete overhaul of the tight forwards.

Robinson last played for the All Blacks over two years ago. But has suffered from serious knee and back injuries. Recently he made a fairytale return to the Waikato side.

New Zealand: Mils Muliaina, Rico Gear, Ma’a Nonu, Aaron Mauger, Joe Rokocoko, Nick Evans, Byron Kelleher, Chris Masoe, Richie McCaw (c), Reuben Thorne, Chris Jack, Keith Robinson, Carl Hayman, Keven Mealamu, Tony Woodcock. Reserves: Andrew Hore, John Afoa, Clark Dermody, Rodney So’oialo, Andrew Ellis, Daniel Carter, Sitiveni Sivivatu.

Graham Henry announces All Black squad for European tour

All Black coach Graham Henry has announced his squad for the end of year European tour.

There is one first time selection in the squad - Canterbury halfback Andy Ellis. Also of note is the recall of Waikato lock Keith Robinson who earned six caps between 2002 and 2004 before a long-term back injury.

Jonah Lomu to switch to league?

All Black great Jonah Lomu is considering a switch to play rugby league for the newly formed Gold Coast Titans.

Medical staff for the Titans must pass Lomu fit on the Gold Coast tomorrow before he enters into preliminary discussions with club’s management.

Four new Springboks in squad

Springbok coach Jake White has selected four new caps to his 28 men squad, while giving some senior a rest, for their end-of-year tour to Britain and Ireland.

Free State Cheetahs fullback Bevan Fortuin, Blue Bulls flanker Hilton Lobberts, Lions centre Jaco Pretorius and Sharks flyhalf Francois Steyn are the four new members in White’s squad.

2007 Tri Nations Fixtures

Sanzar have released the schedule for the 2007 Tri Nations. There will only be six matches played in 2007 so as to give the players a rest before the start of the Rugby World Cup.

The series kicks off on 16 June with South Africa hosting Australia at a venue yet to be confirmed. And finishes on the 21 July with the All Blacks hosting the Wallabies at Eden Park.
