Hurricanes 2007 Super 14 Squad

January 6th, 2007

For 2007 the Hurricanes have picked up Otago halfback Chris Smylie and Southland first five Blair Stewart, along with Auckland wing David Smith and lock Brad Mika.

2007 Super 14 Fixtures

The South African, New Zealand and Australian Rugby Unions (SANZAR) have released the schedule for the 2007 Super 14. The 2007 Super 14 season will start a week earlier to allow for the Rugby World Cup.

The competition starts off on 2nd February with the Blues hosting the Crusaders in Auckland. It finishes up with the grand final to be played on the 19th May.

It is still unknown which team will be the 5th South African side. The South African Rugby Union (SARU) had originally planned for the Southern Spears to replace that country’s bottom-placed team this year, the Cats, for 2007 and 2008.

Hurricanes defeat Chiefs

April 1st, 2005

The Hurricanes defeated the Chiefs 28-16 in the first game of Super 12 round 6 in a game played at Westpac Stadium in Wellington.

The Chiefs started well dominating field position in the early parts of the game, which resulted in try to fly-half David Hill in the 8th minute of the game.

The Hurricanes scored their first points in the 33rd minute when Stephen Bates was penalised for playing the ball in the ruck and Jimmy Gopperth kicked the resulting penalty.

Hurricanes name team to play Chiefs

March 31st, 2005

The Hurricanes have named their team to take on the Chiefs this Friday night at Westpac Stadium in Wellington.

Three changes have been made to the Hurricanes starting team from the team that took the field against the Stormers. Piri Weepu is back having recovered from a twisted ankle. Lome Fa’atau replaces Hosea Gear on the right wing and Shannon Paku replaces Riki Flutey at fullback.

Rodney So’oialo has been bracketed with Thomas Waldrom. So’oialo suffered an ankle injury against the Bulls a fortnight ago. So will take the field if he is able to prove his fitness.

Hurricanes snatch win against Stormers

March 25th, 2005

In the opening match of week 5 of the Super 12, the Hurricanes snatched a narrow victory from the Stormers.

The game was played in wet conditions which both teams had difficultly adapting to. With neither team was able to score a try, the game was decided by kicks.

The Stormers lead for much of the game through penalties to Chris Rossouw.

The Hurricanes won through a last minute drop goal by Jimmy Gopperth.

Hurricanes name team to play Stormers

March 23rd, 2005

The Hurricanes have named their team to take on the Stormers this Friday at Arena Manawatu in Palmerston North.

Four changes have been made to the starting team. In the forwards Ben Herring returns to the openside flank, while Thomas Waldrom takes over from the injured Rodney So’oialo at number eight. In the backs Isaac Boss will start at halfback for Piri Weepu who has twisted his ankle and Conrad Smith starts at centre after recovering from his elbow injury.

Bulls beat Hurricanes

The Bulls have beaten the Hurricanes 21-12 at Wellington Stadium on Saturday.

This victory is the first this year by a South Africa team against a non-South African team.

Hurricanes - Tries: Hosea Gear, Joe McDonnell. Conversion: Jimmy Gopperth

Bulls - Tries: Akona Ndungane, Etienne Botha. Conversion: Kennedy Tsimba. Penalties: Derick Hougaard (2). Drop goal: Hougaard


Hurricanes name team to play Bulls

March 17th, 2005

Hurricanes have named their team to play the Bulls at Wellington Stadium on Saturday.

There are five changes to the starting team that defeated the Sharks last weekend in Durban. Captain Tana Umaga returns to the starting lineup at second five-eighth.

Piri Weepu takes over at halfback, Hosea Gear returns from injury on the wing.

In the forwards Luke Andrews comes in for Kristian Ormsby at lock, while Chris Masoe will start at openside flanker in place of Ben Herring.

If the Hurricanes win this match it will be the first time they have started the Super 12 with four straight victories.

Hurricanes defeat the Sharks and take top spot

March 12th, 2005

The Hurricanes defeated the Sharks 29-23 in Durban on Friday.

Hurricanes first five-eighth Jimmy Gopperth scored 24 points as the Hurricanes secured their third win of the year. The win takes the team to the top of the table with 13 points, the Brumbies also have 13 points but the Hurricanes take the top spot with their superior points difference.

The defeat is the third straight for the Sharks this season and will put further pressure on embattled coach Kevin Putt to step down.

Hurricanes overpower Cats

The Hurricanes defeated the Cats 45-32 in Johannesburg on Saturday.

The Hurricanes lead at halftime 21-10. The win was significant for Hurricanes as they were without their captain Tana Umaga.
