2007 Super 14 Fixtures

October 13th, 2006

The South African, New Zealand and Australian Rugby Unions (SANZAR) have released the schedule for the 2007 Super 14. The 2007 Super 14 season will start a week earlier to allow for the Rugby World Cup.

The competition starts off on 2nd February with the Blues hosting the Crusaders in Auckland. It finishes up with the grand final to be played on the 19th May.

It is still unknown which team will be the 5th South African side. The South African Rugby Union (SARU) had originally planned for the Southern Spears to replace that country’s bottom-placed team this year, the Cats, for 2007 and 2008.

Chiefs conquer Cats

April 16th, 2005

The Chiefs defeated the Cats 45-14 in the first Super 12 rugby match of Week 8 at Waikato Stadium in Hamilton tonight.

The Chiefs score could have easily been closer to 70 as they butchered four movements that would have likely resulted in tries if it had not been for unforced errors.

The win for the Chiefs keeps their slim semi-final hopes alive.

For the Cats, Conrad Jantjes and Jaque Fourie played well. But the rest of the team played poorly. With only one win this year the Cats have no realistic chance of making the semi-finals and are only playing for pride, except the team seem to lack pride at the moment.

Chiefs - Tries: Byron Kelleher (2), Bernie Upton, Stephen Donald, Sione Lauaki, Sitiveni Sivivatu. Penalty: David Hill. Conversions: David Hill (6).

Cats - Tries: Conrad Jantjes, Juan Smith tries. Conversions: Andre Pretorius (2).

Highlanders defeat Cats

March 26th, 2005

The Highlanders have defeated the Cats 16-12 during their Super 12 match in Johannesburg on Friday.

The game was marred by mistakes and poor handling. Despite having over 60% of both possession and territory, the Cats were only able to score through the boot of Andre Pretorius.

The Highlanders scored a try through Craig Newby in the first half of the game.

The Cats had several attacking opportunities but were unable to penetrate the impressive defence of the Highlanders.

Andre Pretorius was only able to slot 4 of his 6 attempts at goal.

Captain of the Cats, Wikus van Heerden, after the match said “What a huge disappointment for our loyal supporters. We played with so much pride, but failed to take our chances and committed far too many handling errors.”

The win marks the third consecutive win by the Highlanders against South African sides, having previously recorded victories against the Sharks and Bulls.

Highlanders - Try: Craig Newby; Conversion: Ben Blair; Penalties: Blair (3)

Cats - Penalties: Andre Pretorius (4)
